Amanda Opperman presents work on culturally responsive instruction at the Culturally Responsive Evaluation and Assessment Conference in Chicago.

Culturally relevant pedagogy (CRP) is a concept established by Ladson-Billings (1995) and further elaborated on by other researchers as, among other things, culturally sustaining pedagogy (Paris, 2012). The status quo curriculum and pedagogy often represents the dominant social class and may reproduce societal norms (Bourdeiu, 1979).There is research evidence that culturally relevant content and pedagogy facilitate student learning (Dee & Penner, 2017; Howard & Rodriguez-Minkoff, 2017).
What analytical procedures can be developed and used to characterize the culturally relevant content of resources found on Teachers Pay Teachers?
We conceptualize and develop a tool for analyzing the resources along three dimensions (Ladson-Billings, 1995) three criteria for culturally relevant pedagogy and pilot the tool with instructional resources identified on Teachers Pay Teachers.
